Slaughtering at the country (1981-1998)

My neighbors Hanne and Johs exchanged their house in Allerød for an old farmhouse in St. Merløse. Together with their son Ole, they wanted to live a simple and self-sufficient life in the country. And that’s what they did: Grew grains and vegetables, baked, picked, kept chickens and rabbits, they even got a single goat and horse. And naturally, a couple of pigs too.

The butcher was booked for a day in March, and I was invited to the event. It was a beautiful day with low-hanging sun. It took 3 men to force the pig out the barn. It was as if the knew what was coming….
